247sports released new rankings for the 2020 class today and one of the biggest risers was Cincinnati commit and Dual Threat Quarterback Evan Prater. The 6-foot-5 190 pound signal caller saw a meteoric rise from 290th nationally to 156th, from 3star to 4star, 8th ranked Dual Threat Quarterback in the country to 5th ranked and from the 7th ranked prospect in the state of Ohio all the way to #2 making him the highest rated recruit in Cincinnati Football history.
This is high praise for a player who deserves the rise in not only ranking but exposure. There has been a lot of noise surrounding the commitment of OLB Jaheim Thomas this past weekend. This attention is completely warranted due to high importance and the huge impact that Thomas will have for the Bearcats, but lost in the midst of it all is that Prater was already a diamond in the class. These two commits together make up what is a dynamic one-two punch as not only high profile prospects, but also play on different sides of the ball at important positions.
It is Evan Prater who is the prospect that plays the most important position in football. Prater lead the Wyoming High School Cowboys to an undefeated season and state championship this past year. He finished with 1,686 passing yards on 64% completion with 20td/2int. He also added 1,133yds rushing, 9.3 yards per carry and 21 rushing touchdowns. If this was not enough, he also lead the Cowboys basketball team to a 22-2 record while topping the team in scoring (17.9ppg), rebounds (7.7reb) and blocks (1.9).
Another extremely important trait that Prater holds is that he has already shown his loyalty to the program. Whether it is being on campus countless times throughout the summer or showing up to Jaheim Thomas's announcement this past Saturday, Prater has represented the Bearcats and has been a guiding light to the vision that Coach Luke Fickell has instilled at Cincinnati. He has also turned in to a recruiter himself as he continues to be a catalyst to build the 2020 class as strong as it can be.
A dual threat quarterback who can get it done through the air and with his legs, but also does not turn the ball over. A leader who will rally his team together and carries himself with confidence on and off the field. Does that sound familiar to anyone? If there is anyone who can be a mentor for Evan Prater as he evolves from highly regarded recruit to dynamic college football player it would be Desmond Ridder. The current Cincinnati Quarterback and Davey O'Brien Award Watch List member holds similar traits to Prater and will only be an aid for when the young star puts on the red and black.
Until then Prater still has one more year of high school left. He will more than likely be the favorite to win Mr. Football in the state of Ohio and lead his team to another state championship, but there is no doubt that when the 4star 6-foot-5 190 pound Dual Threat Quarterback and highest rated recruit in history comes to campus he will be ready.
